Harrison Ford, a furry side kick, and an ice covered environment… 99 times out of 100 I’m watching Episode Five, but the past copule nights we put Charlie to bed and watched The Call of the Wild.
I read the film didn’t make back the $125 million budget which ran way over due to CGI project creep. I can see where the money went.
Admittedly, I went in with a bit of bias follwoing the family friendly trailer. I thought, “How big was the dump truck of cash they backed up to Harrison Ford’s house to get him to star in this movie?”
The movie may not have grossed enough to cover his salary on top of the production budget, but Ford sold me on his character arc. I should say, he didn’t lean too hard in to his natural surly demeanor.
We couldn’t get through the entire 120 minutes in one sitting. Thirteen minutes before the end of the film, my wife (MY WIFE!) needed to step away so she could watch the finale of The Undoing upstairs.
The Undoing, where real life prostitue solicitor Hugh Grant plays fictional Jonathan Sachs, who may or may not have killed his mistress.
Spoiler Alert! “I don’t give a shit.” Thankfully, I got the semi-shortened recap from my spouse and won’t need to invest the time to read the Wikipedia plot summary.
Anyways, visuals made me want to visit Alaska, a few scenes pulled on the heart strings (it was a movie about a dog), and Harrison Ford entertains. The adapters smartly removed the plotline from the book where the dog Buck goes full Cujo on a Native American tribe.
I wouldn’t pay to rent this movie, but as part of an existing subscription?
Press play, sorry Chewie.
