Today marks my second dadiversary. On September 29th two years ago, I nearly fainted in the delivery room while my wife gave birth… My excuse? It was 0230 and I’d had very little to eat.
The extended family seems to misunderstand this important day. My oldest daughter received a half-dozen balloons, donuts to take to day care, extra TV privelages, a chocolate cake, and even a bounce house compliments of my brother-in-law. I’ve received no gifts, no well wishes and no congratulations on my momentous occasion.
I did get a verbal reprimand for letting the toddler ‘hug’ her giant ‘number two’ (not poop) balloon until it popped at 0645 this morning before I could get a picture.
Like many important jobs, being a dad is sometimes thankless… especially on a two-year-olds birthday.
