I mentioned in a previous post that I read The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. Having finished the Daily Stoic on December 31st, I started another daily read book for 2022. I chose The Daily Laws by Robert Greene for 365 bite sized lessons.
I like daily reads to encourage consistency for my reading habit. I’ve previously enjoyed the aforementioned The Daily Stoic (twice) bye Ryan Holiday and my first year long read was Tolstoy’s A Calendar of Wisdom.
One of the early lessons (day 4) provided by Greene is to reflect on your passions of childhood to recapture your passions in adulthood. I read the lesson this morning. Coincidentally, my boss mentioned something during our quarterly review today explaining how our passions at 9, 25 and 40 are very different.
Given the coincidence, I’m currently racking my brain to remember what I enjoyed as a kid… I loved cruising around on my bike to find my friends, and I swam year round. I still stay up too late reading, though I’ve traded in my flashlight and Goosebumps for a backlit Kindle.
Ultimately, Greene’s law is about reconnecting. I’ll continue to daydream about youth in an attempt to find something I once abandoned that might rekindle an old fire.
I’ll keep you posted.
