Inspiration
From CGP Grey, on YouTube I watched a video It was about creating a yearly theme instead of resolutions. This year, around the new year, I outlined several 2022 New Years Resolutions and though I’ve not yet failed at any of them, the idea of a theme might be more a tune to really progressing holistically as a person!
So my resolutions included:
- Daily reading to include Robert Greene’s The Daily Laws and a year “big reading” of War and Peace and an overall 25 book goal for the year.
- Get a faster 1 mile and then 2 mile run time (baseline 1 mile tomorrow)
- Blog more consistently… think journal as opposed to blog
- Eat well – this one requires more thought.
I don’t have any issue with any of the attached resolutions, but I think selecting a theme might be more applicable for the foundation I’m trying to build prior to my 40th birthday.
Did I mention yesterday, 2/22/22, was my birthday? 39 trips around the sun, but 364 days until next years hockey try outs (age 40). Gotta toughen.

The Year of Foundations
With all of the above in mind, 2022 (what’s left of it) is the Year of Foundations. I’ll be building a foundation of Knowledge (reading, learning), Health (fitness and diet), and Output (creativity and support).
- Knowledge (reading and learning
- Health (fitness and diet)
- Output (creativity and support)
That last one is a bit squishy, but I’m still trying to capture how I want to be both individually creative, but also deliberately put out (output) support to my family and friends.
