But time makes you bolder; Even children get older; And I’m gettin’ older, too
~Fleetwood Mac
Who could have guessed that a couple days throwing a 20lb baby in a pool were enough to sideline me for the work week. Take a look at the post from a couple days ago. That’s pure joy.
Now I can’t get up off the toilet without a soft groan
I can’t remember how old I was the first time I threw out my back, but I clearly remember how it happened. I finished doing a workout, got back to my apartment, showered and when I tried to bend over to put my left sock on I felt my back ‘give’ ever so slightly and then immediately tighten up.
The next day I couldn’t get out of bed without rolling over the side. My youthful days of healing like Wolverine are officially over.
Since then it’s always some small, stupid movement that causes a week’s worth of back pain. I know regular exercise, mobility training, stretching, etc, etc all help to prevent such problems but since the little lady came along I’ve been neglectful of the temple that is my #dadbod.
I’m paying for it every time I pull Charlie out of her crib, hunch over to change her diaper or lean over the sink to do dishes.
I wear a brave face for the baby. Dad is invincible.
I just hope she doesn’t hear me whimper as I get off the toilet.
