Raise the Roof

At 630 this morning I woke to the sound of voices outside. The roofers arrived.

Immediately, men speaking in foreign tongues (actually Spanish and English) shimmed up 30-foot ladders and started ripping pieces off my house.

The baby slept in her top floor nursery.

Until she didn’t. She took a great interest in the pounding, stapling and shingle removal… but like every morning at some point she started to yawn and rub her eyes.

Now I’m in the dark of the basement. My office is down here in the finished half of the cellar, but normally I don’t need to sit in the dark.

Charlie’s morning nap required a relocation to the pack-n-play just outside my basement office door to ensure she gets as good a restorative nap as possible. See my wife read this from The Baby Sleep Trainer:

The first nap of the day for baby is mentally restorative and the second nap of the day is physically restorative.

Charlie certainly needs the mental restoration.

I choose to sit in the dark and decline calls until she wakes up.

This is work/life balance.
